BASIC DEFINATIONS
Aircraft:
An aircraft is a machine that is able to travel through air.
Airplane:
An airplane is a power-driven, heavier than air aircraft, with fixed wings. Freighters:
These are also aircraft which carries CARGO. Freighters are fixed-wing aircraft that are designed or converted for the carriage of goods, rather than passengers. They usually do not incorporate passenger amenities, and generally feature one or more large doors for loading cargo.
Narrow Bodied and wide bodied airplanes - Primary Differences
- Singel Aisle
- The cabin size is typically 3 to 4m (10 to 13ft) wide
- Seating can be arranged from 2 to 6 abreast configurations.
- Bulk loading is usually carried out on such airplanes. (Bulk means NO containers/Pallet due to its small size or space in the area or without ULD's)
- Airbus 320/321 Boeing 737 are narrow bodied aircraft.
- Twin Aisles
- The cabin size is typically 5 to 6m (16 to 20ft) wide.
- Seating can be arranged from 7 to 10 abreast configurations.
- Unitized loading is carried out on such airplanes. It has also a bulk compartment which is called compartment 5.
- Airbus 330/340/350/380 and Boeing 777/787/747 are wide bodied airplanes.
